FCAT Parent Letter

April 9, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As I am sure you already know, the FCAT will be held April 16-19 for our third graders. On Monday, the 16th, they will take the first session of Reading (70 minutes). On Tuesday, the 17th, they will take the second session of Reading (70 minutes). On Wednesday, the 18th, they will take the first session of Math (70 minutes).  On Thursday, our final testing day, they will take the second session of Math. (70 minutes).

We have been going over testing strategies as well as the material that will be on the test in both reading and math all year. We have even taken a practice math and reading FCAT, which will be sent home today.  We have reviewed it thoroughly in class, and you should continue to review at home.  There are no spelling words or fluency this week so students can invest extra time in reading comprehension strategies. We have been training all year, now it’s time to show our stuff.

Students will need to earn a level 2 on the FCAT in order to be promoted to 4th grade. A level 2-5 would mean that they passed, with a 5 being the highest score possible. The goal is for every student to score a level 3 or higher. Unfortunately, I do not know when the results will come in, but I will be sure to let you know as soon as they do.

As for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday please make sure your child is here on time and has eaten a HEALTHY breakfast. They should also be getting to bed at a reasonable time. Please just try to keep them on their regular schedule and be sure to ENCOURAGE and build their CONFIDENCE over the weekend and during the week next week! They have all the skills and strategies they need. Now they just need to be sure they use them. J.

Sincerely,

The Third Grade Teachers
